13 years old, this slender Hispanic girl is the daughter of Hector Nunez; her mother is dead.  The older sister of Hectico,  Ada is happy, a tad sarcastic, and like her father, sometimes lets her emotions get the best of her. She is aware of the negative aspects the revolution is bringing to her Cuban way of life, the pressure it is putting on her family, and does her best to keep her feelings to herself. After a key incident with neighborhood children that side with the revolution, a slip of her tongue causes her father’s arrest. Fearing for his children’s safety, her father Hector chooses to send his kids away from Cuba and out of harm's way through a refugee program for children led by Father Walsh in Miami...LEAD  (1)

Tonito Cruz,

6 years old, Carmen's younger brother, he is the son of Patricia and Ignacio Cruz. He idolizes his father, a high-level engineer, and they share a bond over their love of baseball. He is sweet, vulnerable and following key incidents, Tonito’s mother decides that the new way of life in Cuba is not for their children, and fights with their father to get them out of Cuba and harm's way. Sad to be separated from his parents, he and his sister Carmen ultimately find themselves on the same plane as the Nuñez kids (Hectico and Ada) bound for Miami through a refugee program for children led by Father Walsh… LEAD  (10)
